Maundy Thursday

Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter.
"The Seder is the joyful family dinner and worship service which is held in Jewish homes on Passover. Seder means order. The Seder consists of a number of ceremonies of extreme antiquity. Through these ceremonies and symbols, we can feel the trials of the Jews of the Exodus - their embittered life of bondage and the joy of their subsequent triumph of freedom."

Part of today I spent getting ready for the Seder that we are having with our Small Group tomorrow night.  Five families will attend.  We have a local military chapel reserved so that we can seat everyone.

I'll decorate tables simply with pink table cloths and candles.  Oops...just remembered, I have to get the candles to take with us!
"On the table have flowers and several unlit candles.   An empty wine cup should be set in the center of the table. "
On the platter:
  • 1. Three matzah (can use pita bread).
  • 2. Bitter herbs (or horse radish).
  • 3. The shank of a lamb.
  • 4. A roasted egg (hard boiled is OK).
  • 5. Haroset (applesauce with nuts, cinnamon, honey and wine).
  • 6. Parsley or watercress."                (http://www.littlethingscount.com/lentseder.htm)

 Seder Plate

We''ll read from a script about the Jews coming out of their captivity in Egypt.  Remember that saying, "Those who fail to study history are doomed to repeat it?"

The Seder will prepare us for the most important event in World History...the Resurrection of Jesus.

Before getting some of the preparation for the Seder done, I took my 3 youngest on a field trip!!!
Devine Acres Farm
We'll be going back in Oct for a pumpkin field trip and in Dec for a Christmas tree field trip.
Today was the spring theme so we learned about farms and flowers.

This was Levi's favorite part because as the water flowed with pumping action, it pushed the ducks down the PVC pipe.

Dress your farmer station.  There was some creativity going on.

Two day old goats.
Mining for gems was a blast. Oma couldn't reist.

I've NEVER seen such plentiful and beautiful wildflowers anywhere.
